Nel Xanadu alza Kubla Khan
dimora di delizie un duomo
dove Alf, il fiume sacro, scorre
per caverne vietate all’uomo
a un mare senza sole.
Dieci miglia di fertile campagna
con mura e torri furono recinte:
e c’era nel giardino un luccichio di rivi
e l’albero d’incenso era fiorito
e v’erano foreste antiche come i clivi
che abbracciavano il verde agro assolato.
